Happy Holidays ~ From the Byrd Family

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

O’ how the holidays are my favorite time of year! But it has gone by so fast that I can not believe that it’s almost 2011. I have huge plans to make the new year even more successful than this year. We have had a great year, made lots of new friends, learned the ups and downs of the photography business (did you know that there is more to running a photography business that just snapping pictures?) and most importantly we have a new outlook on life.

You see, there is so much more to life than just living in the moment. I have learned that it takes work, and I mean hard work; spiritually, physically, and mentally to set goals, stick to the plan, and actually meet those goals. By spiritually I mean, knowing that you are not alone, and knowing that you can accomplish anything through Jesus Christ. Physically on the other hand is down right exhausting, late nights editing, long days practicing, and many hours of trying to reach what you think is the meaning of perfect. Mentally is an entirely different ball game… we have stacks of reference books, mounds of scheduled classes, and a never ending learning process.  The hardest thing for me is getting all of this organized in my head, not to mention my desk!  There is so much information, so many techniques, and so many styles of photography that you really just have to find out who you are and what style you love as you grow.

Back to the Holidays. The Byrd’s Nest had a fabulous Christmas. My sweet baby girls all got exactly what they asked for. Toni and Lindsay both got their IPhones, which even as of today they have not put down (even sleeping with them :) ) and a parlor full of misc. toys that they asked for, and Krystalbug got her Justin Bieber Cd, and to her that is all that matters. As for me and Shawn, we had a perfect Christmas, our girls were happy and we were blessed; what more could we ask for.

wishing everyone a Happy New Year. Stay safe. make it great.

That Takes The Cake

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

The tasty part of the planning. In choosing your wedding cake you should take in consideration the flavor of the cake, the topping, how many guest will it serve, the type of decorations or designs, and how it will be placed and served.

But before you can really start in all the details you will need to find a baker. Shop around for your baker, ask to see a portfolio, and compare designs and prices. Here are a few questions you may want to ask your potential baker:

What are your specialties?

Do you have a portfolio/references?

Can we schedule a cake testing?

Will you work with any florist, if necessary?

How do you charge? By the slice or the cake size?

Are there any delivery and set up fees?

Do you charge a deposit? What are your cancellation policies?
